So, you could see all the way to the top out to the sky. Each room had a ceiling with an opening in the center of it. So, the PCs would just walk up and throw off the tarps because the covered object didn't stand tall like the gargoyles they encountered earlier.Īnother way I used gargoyles was I had the PCs ascending a tower via an exterior staircase with a landing to each floor. But, I had some of the gargoyle statues laying on the ground and covered as well. Throughout the manor there were also items that were covered that were no more than 3 or 4 feet tall, crates, chairs, bookshelves and other furnishings laid on their backs. Once they had fixated on cautiously approaching or preemptively attacking things that looked like covered statues, I changed it up. But, some were gargoyles and would attack while still covered as the PCs neared them.
Some of the covered statues were just that. So, PCs could see through the holes or see bases of statues, cabinetry, tables and such. The tarps didn't go all the way to the ground or had holes worn or eaten in them.
It was still furnished and a lot of things were covered by tarps or sheets. Hit: 13 (2d10 + 2) piercing damage.I ran one where PCs went into an old abandoned manor.
